I am pretty sure that most of you have seen the covers for the windshield to keep the snow and ice off of it. The ones you buy ready made are sort of expensive. I have used thick sheets of plastic and heavy duty packing tape to make ones myself.
I buy the plastic sheeting as thick as I can, and then cut it larger than what is necessary to cover the outside of the windshield from side to side. Place the plastic over the windshield very tightly and then tape the excess ends inside of the car on the framework of the windshield. You will need to make sure that the plastic is pulled very tightly for it to work correctly.
I have even used a large tarp to cut strips the size I need to cover the windshield from top to bottom, but making sure to leave at least one of the grommets on each side when cutting the tarp. It is important to leave the sewed sides on the tarp, and as I said earlier, and only cut strips the height you need to cover the windshield from top to bottom.
You will need suction cups with hooks on them to put through the grommets. Once you have the cover over your windshield very securely, pull it as tight as you can to attach the suction cups, that are on each side of the tarp, to the inside of your windshield.
For Your Door Key
I have found that since alcohol does not freeze, dipping the key in some alcohol will help to melt the ice inside the lock.
Avon used to have a key that fit all locks that would actually warm up and thaw out the lock.
There are also little fake keys that I bought to put in the lock. These were mainly used while the car was parked overnight. I also used them anytime the car was parked for any length of time when it was raining or snowing. During the day, as long as the sun was shining, the fake key was not usually necessary.
12 Surprising Uses for Vicks Vaporub
They had a little knob on them that popped off for you to take with you so that nobody could steal the fake key. As I haven’t had a car for several years now, I don’t know if the fake keys even still exist though.
For Your Clothes And Your Bed
For any type of cloth that needs to be used to get you warm, just put it in the dryer if you have one. If you don’t have a dryer but you do have an iron, you can heat up the iron and run it over your sheets and at least warm up your bed before you get in it. This is sort of a modern version of a bed warmer like they used before there was electricity.
A bed warmer would be placed in the fireplace for a little while to let it heat up. Then it was used to put it between the sheets to warm up the bed. My Great Grandmother had a few of these since she had seven children. Bed warmers are illegal in most states nowadays though. You can also use a hot water bottle though, and they are not illegal.
Believe me, the warm sheets do feel very comfy and help in falling to asleep faster.
I hope these help you this winter.
